Mordi Village: The Community Around Tacos LA

When people think about Mordialloc, they might think about the bay, the beach and the businesses around the main streets.

But take a step inland and you'll discover another side of the area.

Mordi Village, within the Mordialloc industrial precinct, has become home to a mix of businesses, food and drink destinations, creative spaces, recreational activities and local services. For Tacos LA, it has also become an important part of the business's story.

Before settling into its current location, Tacos LA was part of the Urban Ground precinct just down the road. That experience gave Angel the opportunity to get to know the area, meet local people and become part of the community.

Now, Tacos LA is looking forward to continuing that connection from its current location.

Tacos LA's Connection to Urban Ground

Before Tacos LA moved to its current location, Angel was part of the Urban Ground complex.

Urban Ground brings together food trucks, food and drinks, open-air spaces and a community atmosphere in Mordialloc's industrial area. It has become a place where people can gather, eat and spend time together.

For Angel, it was also an opportunity to become familiar with Mordialloc and the people who live and work in the area.

He got to know local customers, build relationships and experience the community around Mordi Village firsthand.

When plans at Urban Ground changed, Tacos LA moved down the road to its current location.

That move didn't mean leaving the community behind. Instead, it gave Tacos LA the opportunity to establish itself in another part of the same local area. For more on Angel's story, you can learn more about his journey with Tacos LA.

A Different Side of Mordialloc

Mordi Village isn't just one type of destination.

The area brings together a wide variety of local businesses and activities, which is part of what makes it such an interesting part of Mordialloc.

There's Urban Ground, where Tacos LA previously operated, alongside businesses such as Braeside Brewing Co. and other local operators. The area also includes businesses focused on recreation, creativity, food, hospitality and wellness.

For something a little different, Curbside Coaching has become a destination for skateboarding lessons and activities. It is one of the more unusual businesses you'll find around the precinct.

There's also a practical side to the area, with automotive and other local service businesses operating alongside the creative, food and community-focused businesses.

A Creative Side to Mordi Village

One of the things that makes the area particularly interesting is its connection to art and creativity.

The Mordi Village precinct has become known for its murals and public art. Recent Wall to Wall projects have transformed parts of the area into an outdoor gallery, with large-scale murals bringing colour, storytelling and creativity to the industrial surroundings.

The area also includes creative businesses and studios, alongside cafes and wellness businesses.

For Tacos LA, this adds another dimension to an area that might otherwise simply be seen as an industrial precinct.

It's the kind of place where you can come across something unexpected simply by exploring the local streets.

A Strong Community Connection

One of the things that stands out about Mordialloc is the way local businesses and the wider community support each other.

Mordi Village reflects that in its own way. Different types of businesses operate alongside each other, creating opportunities for people to work, eat, exercise, shop and spend time in the area.

The wider area also connects with recreational spaces such as Kevin Hayes Reserve, while the Mordialloc Tennis Club is another part of the local community.

For families, individuals and local businesses, that variety gives the area a strong sense of community.

And for Tacos LA, being part of that community has become an important part of the journey.

Mordi Village Is Changing

The area has a history connected to industry, but it is also continuing to evolve.

Mordi Village combines its industrial foundations with hospitality, retail, cultural and creative businesses, creating a broader mix of experiences and services.

That makes it an interesting place to explore because you don't necessarily know what you'll find around the next corner.

You might come across a food and drink destination, a skateboarding facility, a creative business, a mural, a local service business or somewhere to spend time with family and friends.

For Tacos LA, that's part of what makes the area feel like home.

What's Next for Tacos LA?

Tacos LA is now preparing for its next chapter in Mordialloc.

With the move into the restaurant officially approved by council, the team can begin the process of expanding its hours and moving towards the next stage of the business.

After spending time at Urban Ground and getting to know the local community, Angel and the Tacos LA team are looking forward to continuing to grow in the area.

The goal is not simply to operate in Mordi Village, but to be part of the community around it and work alongside the other local businesses that help make the area unique.

From food and drink to creative businesses, recreation, wellness and local services, Mordi Village has plenty going on.

And Tacos LA is grateful to be part of it. Read more about Tacos LA

We're looking forward to expanding our hours, welcoming more people through our doors and continuing to grow alongside the Mordialloc community.
