Tacos LA’s Chicano Taco Finds a Permanent Home in Mordialloc
After building a following through pop-ups and street-food stops, Tacos LA is putting down permanent roots in Mordialloc.
The next chapter officially begins on Thursday, 29 October 2026 at 5pm, when Tacos LA opens its first permanent bricks-and-mortar home at 9 Kareela Street, Mordialloc.
For founder Angel Farias, the move marks an important moment for a brand built around a simple idea: make seriously good tacos, serve them with personality, and bring a taste of LA-inspired Mexican street food to Melbourne.
Now, Tacos LA has a permanent kitchen to take that idea even further.
The taco that started the conversation
At the centre of the Tacos LA menu is the Chicano taco, a distinctive take on the classic taco that combines a crispy, golden exterior with slow-cooked meat and layers of flavour.
It is the kind of taco designed to be eaten with both hands - crispy, juicy, messy and unapologetically generous.
Alongside the Chicano, Tacos LA's menu is built around 12-hour slow-cooked meats, bringing depth and richness to its Mexican street-food offering.
“We wanted to create food that people crave,” says Farias. “The Chicano is crispy, juicy, messy and packed with flavour. It’s become a big part of what people know us for, and now we finally have a permanent home where we can really make it our own.”
From Mordialloc to a permanent home
The decision to establish Tacos LA at 9 Kareela Street was a natural next step for the brand.
Rather than chasing Melbourne’s most obvious food precincts, Tacos LA is choosing to build its home in Mordialloc - creating a destination the team hopes will attract taco lovers from across Melbourne.
“Mordialloc has been such an important part of our journey,” says Farias.
“We wanted to create somewhere people would actually travel for - not just a place you happen to find yourself. A proper taco destination.”
The new venue will retain the energetic, street-food personality that Tacos LA has become known for, while giving the team the freedom to develop the menu, introduce new dishes and create a more complete Tacos LA experience.
A new chapter for Tacos LA
The official opening comes as Melbourne's appetite for Mexican food continues to grow, with diners looking for food that goes beyond the familiar.
For Tacos LA, the goal is to carve out its own space within that scene by combining the influence of LA street food with its own signature style.
“We want people to talk about Tacos LA when they talk about Mexican food in Melbourne,” says Farias.
“This is our home now. We want people to come from all over Melbourne, try the food and understand what Tacos LA is about.”
After its journey through pop-ups and street-food stops, Tacos LA now has a permanent home for the Chicano, its slow-cooked meats and its growing menu. For the latest Tacos LA stories and updates, visit our blog.
