Tacos LA’s Next Chapter: From Food Truck to Mordialloc Restaurant
For more than 10 years, Tacos LA has been part of Melbourne’s food truck scene.
Now, the business is getting ready for its next chapter.
After years of operating as a full-time food truck at different locations and events, Tacos LA is preparing to move away from the full-time food truck model and settle into its restaurant in Mordialloc.
But this isn’t the end of the food truck story.
It’s the beginning of something bigger.
From food truck to restaurant
The move into the Mordialloc restaurant represents a major change for Tacos LA after more than a decade on the road.
The plan is to settle into the restaurant properly, with extended hours, additional trading days and a much larger menu.
That means customers will have more opportunities to visit Tacos LA in Mordialloc and experience more of the food that the business has been developing.
There’s still work happening behind the scenes to finalise the staff, systems and processes needed for the restaurant’s full-time operation.
As those pieces come together, more details and announcements will follow.
A bigger Mexican street food menu
The restaurant will also allow Tacos LA to expand beyond the tacos customers already know.
The planned menu will include more Mexican and Los Angeles-inspired street food options, including burritos, esquitas, tamales and tostadas.
There are also plans for pilado, including ice creams and other desserts.
For drinks, Tacos LA will continue supplying Jarritos as a main drink option, while agua fresca will also be added.
The goal is to bring a wider range of Mexican and Los Angeles Mexican street food to Melbourne and give customers more ways to experience what Tacos LA is about.
Mexican food catering is coming back
While the full-time food truck operation is changing, Tacos LA is also preparing to bring catering back.
The plan is to establish a dedicated mobile team that can attend events or supply food for events across Melbourne, Mordialloc and surrounding areas.
This will allow the restaurant to continue operating its regular hours while a separate team handles catering and event work.
For anyone looking for Mexican food catering, event catering or food truck catering in Melbourne, Tacos LA will soon have an option available again.
The team is currently working through the staff and processes needed to make that happen properly.
More information about the catering service will be announced as the mobile team is ready to launch.
A special plate day is also being planned
There are also plans for something a little different at the restaurant.
One day each week is being planned as a dedicated plate day.
Rather than the full menu, the focus will be on a meat plate served with beans, Mexican rice, garnishes and salsas.
It’s another way Tacos LA is looking to introduce customers to more of the food and flavours behind Mexican street food culture.
Details about when the plate day will launch will be announced as the restaurant settles into its new routine.
What’s next for Tacos LA?
There’s a lot happening behind the scenes as Tacos LA moves into this next stage.
The restaurant is becoming the full-time home of the business, the menu is expanding, and a new mobile team is being prepared to bring Tacos LA catering back to events.
After more than 10 years as a food truck, it’s a significant change.
But the food truck experience isn’t being left behind.
Instead, the experience, food and culture that have shaped Tacos LA over the years are being brought into a permanent restaurant while a new mobile catering operation is prepared alongside it.
More food.
More menu options.
More opportunities to visit.
And eventually, more opportunities to bring Tacos LA to your event.
The next chapter is just getting started.
Stay tuned for more announcements from Tacos LA as the restaurant, expanded menu and catering options take shape in Mordialloc.
